ÖBB Marshalling Yard Linz Extension 1

Brief description
We were assigned the renovations by ÖBB at the end of April 2006. The preparation time for the relatively large building process of cable construction, was very short as the start of construction began at the start of May 2006 and the start of operation was already fixed for May 2007.

The renovation was necessary as the individual signal boxes (16, 17 &19) were no longer state of the art. Therefore all points and signals in the central point set up in 2002 and extended in 2006 had to be included. In order to enable this, new cable runs were made in the form of PVC pipe routes and trough routes. It was not only the construction time which was problematic but also the logistic handling of the work, as all services had to be carried out in the track area and under the railway system. After start up by the ministry the old cables are to be removed.

Scope of Work
The construction work encompassed:
approx. 1600 m³ trench excavation including
approx. 550 m³ track crossings
approx. 7500 m  PVC cable channels
approx. 2500 m  trough routes
approx. 135.000 m cables
approx. 70 signal foundations
